FAQs

What are your flowers made from?

With certain exceptions, From Maggie, With Love creations are made from sola wood.

Sola wood is harvested from the sola plant, which is a sustainable plant that thrives in marshes.

Why do you use sola wood?

I use sola wood because it’s a sustainable, renewable resource. It’s odorless, which is ideal for customers sensitive to strong smells.

Sola wood is supple enough to create an elegant flower but durable enough to last a lifetime with proper care.

The flowers it creates are hypoallergenic, which benefits allergy-prone customers.

And, different parts of the sola plant can be harvested for unique textures and styles.

For instance, my bark flowers include a layer of the plant’s outer texture, creating a rustic, raw feel. Others just use the cream of the plant, creating a gentle aesthetic that’s perfect for replicating a cut flower.

Do you make every flower?

The majority of my raw flowers are sourced from premium vendors around the world. Some – such as book flowers, graphic novel flowers and some specialty sola wood flowers – and handmade by myself.

Do wood flowers last forever?

It’s possible with the proper care. If kept in direct sunlight, wood flowers can fade and age. If kept outdoors, they are subject to weather.

While you don’t have to water these flowers, they are still vulnerable to the elements.

My recommendation is to display them in a cool, dry location.

Can I keep your pieces outdoors?

While I do create and sell wreaths, the flowers are organic and I would recommend not keeping these pieces outdoors without an awning or storm door protecting them.

If you request an outdoor wreath, I do spray it with a protective sealant but this does not ensure they will last forever. Direct sunlight, rain, and other weather could potentially damage your piece.

What type of greenery do you use?

I have a selection of faux greenery as well as fresh greenery that’s been preserved or dried.

I have a bad reaction to strongly scented items. Do wood flowers have odors?

Wood flowers are naturally odorless. If a scent is desired, I can add essential oils to my pieces, but generally people who are sensitive to strong odors respond very well to wood flowers.

Can you take on special requests and unusual designs?

Some of my favorite pieces have come from unexpected commissions. Please send your most outlandish ideas via my contacts page. I look forward collaborating on truly original pieces together.
